Embark Studios isn't slowing down, following up the closed Beta for explosive game show FPS The Finals with a test for their previously-announced game ARC Raiders. After months of speculation and details kept under wraps, players will finally get an opportunity to play the much-anticipated FPS. Here's when you can get your hands on it.
ARC Raiders has undergone some changes since it was first announced way back in 2021. First advertised as a co-op shooter set in a retrofuturistic machine apocalypse, the game has shifted gears and turned into a PvPvE extraction shooter like the upcoming Marathon. This means players will be shooting at each other as well as the giant robots that have taken over the Earth.
When is the Arc Raiders Closed Alpha?
According to an announcement made yesterday on the ARC Raiders Twitter page, a Closed Alpha playtest will be held for the game starting on June 29, just a week or so after the playtest for The Finals is set to close.
While still relatively new to the wider stage of gaming, Embark Studios seems set to become a major player in the multiplayer FPS field. Bringing talent from DICE, known for Battlefield and Mirror's Edge, The Finals is already a huge success and ARC Raiders looks like it could be as well. Extraction shooters are still an emerging genre and ARC Raiders could be the entry to break into the mainstream -- before Marathon.
