Mega Evolution is getting, well, a mega overhaul in Pokémon GO. With the new Pokémon GO update coming, here's everything you need to know about Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO.
Mega Evolution was first introduced to Pokémon GO back in 2020, and besides going through some early tweaking, not much had changed from the original system of relying on Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your Pokémon every time. Now though, things have changed for the better.
Mega Evolution Changes in Pokémon GO
Instead of making Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO reliant on gaining Mega Energy for your Pokémon every time you wanted to Mega Evolve, Pokémon GO has an updated system based around a cooldown. You will still need to collect Mega Energy to evolve your Pokémon the first time, but after that the Pokémon will not require any more Mega Energy.
Instead, it will become exhausted from Mega Evolving, and enter a cooldown. This will drastically reduce the grind to Mega Evolve, especially for casual players not capable of spending a couple hours each day chasing down raids. Additionally, new bonuses for extra XP and candy gained for Mega Evolving have been added, as well as a Mega Evolution leveling up system.
