The Season 01 Reloaded content lineup for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare II was announced in full by Activision Friday.
Following a patch to both games, Season 1 Reloaded, the midseason update for Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, will arrive on Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. ET.
From the first-ever Special Ops Raid to a reimagined fan-favorite Shipment Multiplayer map and more, here's a breakdown of everything you need to know about the Season 1 Reloaded midseason update.
Warzone 2, Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 Reloaded Update Explained
Warzone 2
Two main additions highlight the Season 1 Reloaded content for Warzone 2: Building 21 in DMZ, and new limited-time modes.
For those grinding out DMZ, there will be a new area to explore called Building 21. Building 21 is said to be a clandestine biological laboratory that requires players to obtain a certain item to access it. For those willing to take the high risk needed to step foot it in, Building 21 is said to have high-tier Contraband found throughout the building, especially in safes and special areas that require keycard access.
Meanwhile, following the events of the Modern Warfare FC Support a Team feature and the release of the soccer bundles, Season 1 Reloaded is set to release the Warzone Cup LTM. The Warzone Cup is said to be a mode that pits two teams of three against each other at the Al Easima Field, where they will have special ATVs with a pulse ability to push a massive football to score goals. The first team to score five goals, or the team with the most goals at the end of the five-minute time limit, wins the match.
For more traditional Battle Royale fans, Season 1 Reloaded also sees the return of Mini Royale. Mini Royale is essentially a faster-paced version of Warzone's standard BR modes, with a smaller lobby and reduced map size. Mini Royales are planned to be included as part of scheduled Playlist updates.
Modern Warfare 2
Headlining the Modern Warfare 2 content are the aforementioned Atomgrad Raid and Shipment map.
As teased by Infinity Ward since before the release of Modern Warfare 2, Raids are said to be a whole new experience for the franchise — a three-player cooperative engagement requiring teamwork and strategic, puzzle-solving thinking in-between bouts of intense combat that also continues the story of the MW2 Campaign.
Raid Episode 1: Atomgrad is said to follow Price, Farah and Gaz as they make a "grim" discovery in an underground bunker while on the trail of their missing team. Those who successfully complete this Raid will unlock Gaz as an Operator and his "Convoy" Skin for use in Multiplayer and Special Ops, as well as in Warzone 2. It will also unlock a harder-difficulty Playlist.
With the addition of Shipment at the start of Season 1 Reloaded, and the continued absence of Valderas Museum in-game, the number of Core Maps in MW2 expands to 12.
Shipment once again should be a perfect map for camo grinders, as well as those who enjoy chaotic, close-range combat. MW2's version of the map does appear to be significantly different in terms of looks, however, with the map set this time around on a cargo ship taking on water in a storm-ridden part of the Atlantic Ocean. Additionally, from Dec. 21 through the new year to Jan. 4, Shipment will receive a temporary festive visual overhaul, decorated in the holiday spirit across its main deck.
It's also worth mentioning that at long last, players will soon be able to check their kill-death ratios (KD) in Warzone 2 as, just like with modern Warfare II in the Season 1 update, Infinity Ward will be bringing the Combat Record functionality to the free-to-play title with the new update.
Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2
Revealed to be coming to both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 in Season 1 Reloaded, as promised, are two new Operators, the Chimera assault rifle, the new Groups social feature and new bundles.
In addition to being unlocked by completing the new Raid, Gaz will also be available in a Store Bundle with the "Aquatic" Skin. Those who complete the Raid and purchase the Bundle will unlock the "Grass Ops" Skin as a bonus reward.
Meanwhile, Danish Elite Special Forces soldier Klaus Fisker will be available as a new operator in the in-game store via the Klaus Operator Bundle.
Perhaps the star of the show is the Chimera assault rifle, which will be unlockable via weapon challenge or store bundles. The Chimera is said to be built for keeping players completely off the grid thanks to its lack of visible tracers, hidden skull indicators and suppressed fire. The Chimera’s effective range will seemingly also be shorter than most assault rifles, making it a more powerful and silent alternative to the faster-firing M13B from the same platform.
Lastly, the new Groups social feature is said to be helpful for those looking to make new friends or find squadmates in both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Accessible via the Social menu, Groups allows you to find or create communities of fellow Call of Duty players — up to 5,000 in a single Group — based on similar interests. Groups are also defined by their main language and their privacy settings.
To celebrate this new update, Double XP and Double Weapon XP will be active across all platforms during its extended launch weekend, from Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. ET to Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. ET. PlayStation owners will also have Double XP active from Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. ET until the start of the Double XP and Double Weapon XP event across all platforms.
