Pokemon is one of Nintendo's most successful video games series, and The Pokemon Company just shared the staggering number of Pokemon games and trading cards it has shipped over the last 27 years.
As Game Developer reports, The Pokemon Company shared some stats covering Pokemon video games, trading cards, and animated TV shows. Since its inception back in 1996 to March this year, over 480 million units of Pokemon-related software has shipped, with nine different languages supported.
In total, there have been 21 main series Pokemon game releases, many of which saw two titles released at once. Then there's the side games and spin-off games, of which there are 52 titles, as well as mobile apps and PC titles.
The figures are even more staggering for the Pokemon trading card series. Over 52.9 billion trading cards have been produced in 14 languages which are available in 89 countries and regions. The animated TV shows are also popular, with 192 countries and regions airing them since the first series appeared back in 1997.
According to VGChartz, the best-selling Pokemon games of all time are Pokemon Red, Blue, and Green (Japan Only) which have a combined total of 31.38 million copies. Pokemon Sword and Shield come in second with cokmbined sales of 25.82 million. The latest entries (Scarlet and Violet) have achieved 22.1 million sales, but that should increase substantially once The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk expansions release later this year. In case you're wondering, the least popular release was Pokemon Crystal with (a still very impressive) 6.39 million copies sold.
