After The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, could Nintendo be looking ahead to new hardware?

As reported by GamesRadar, two reporters have taken to Twitter to suggest that upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, could be the last "significant" first-party release that Nintendo will launch on the Nintendo Switch.

GamesIndustry.biz reporter Chris Dring took to Twitter in November to respond to one user, saying that, according to his sources, after Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo "doesn't have a significant game for quite some time."

VGC's Andy Robinson said at the end of December that, based off predictions and rumors of new hardware in 2024, Tears of the Kingdom could be the last first-party game on the Nintendo Switch.

"From what I’m hearing I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo starts talking about new hardware by 2024. I’m not convinced another huge first-party game other than Zelda is left on Switch (usual Nintendo prediction caveats apply…)"

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to release on May 12, 2023. Aside from Pikmin 4, there's little else heading to Switch this year in terms of new first-party titles. A few remasters will be on the way, such as Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, but most of the big hitters will be coming from third-party developers.
