Respawn Entertainment released a major change when it comes to spitfire ammo in Apex Legends. A few different weapons saw changes in the type of ammo they use and the news shocked the Apex Legends community.

Season 14 of Apex Legends began on Aug. 9, 2022 and is expected to run through Nov. 1, 2022. The season included a new legend to play as and saw a new attachment added on SMGs and Pistols in the form of Laser Sights.

One major change came in the form of ammo that the Spitfire LMG would use. When season 14 came around, the Spitfire LMG started to use light ammo. During an AMA on Apex Legends subreddit, Apex Legends Senior Game Designer Eric Canavese responded about the weapon change.

Reddit user Aixcix asked about the reasoning for the change for the Spitfire to light ammo and here is what Canavese had to say:

It's not always just the number of weapons within each ammo type. We look at many factors and one of the determining factors in this decision was the balance of medium to late game viable weapons within the ammo types. The early game light ammo offerings are plenty, but lack robustness towards the later stages of the game, whereas Heavy ammo had quite a fleshed out late game line up. Pulling the Spitfire into light ammo helps even out the spread and gives us more breathing room when we think about what weapons will be going into the crafter or care packages.Eric Canavese

While this is a lengthy answer, he does a great job explaining the reasoning behind the change. The move helped balance out the weapon offerings in-game, and while it might take some getting used to, it is the best move for the future.

Apex Legends is currently in the midst of a big event! Players can play in the Best of Prey Collection Event right now. This limited-time event includes gun run, a mode that players using weapons affected by the spitfire ammo change will want to check out.
