Bethesda's highly-anticipated action RPG Starfield can only be played on PCs that have an SSD installed with 125GB of free space available.
The Steam page for Starfield lists the system requirements in order to play the game and an additional note states "SSD Required." The game installation takes up 125GB of storage space, so you'll likely struggle to free up enough if your PC or laptop relies on a 250GB SSD.
Even if you meet the storage requirements, the rest of the spec you'll need to play this game is quite demanding. At an absolute minimum your system must be running an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or an Intel Core i7-6800K, 16GB of RAM, and either an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or Nvidia GeForce 1070 Ti. Windows 10 22H2 is also required as a minimum. Perhaps this is the excuse you needed to buy a new gaming PC or laptop?
Starfield is described by Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard as "Skyrim in space," and it counts as the first new intellectual property from Bethesda in over 25 years. The game is also an important one for Microsoft, who now owns Bethesda and will launch Starfield as a console-exclusive for Xbox alongside the PC release on Sept. 6.
A few days ahead of Starfield launching, Microsoft is making a carbon black Xbox Series S available with double the storage inside for an extra $50. Now the storage requirements of Starfield are known, it's clear why Microsoft wanted to get this new Series S on store shelves in time for the game's release.
