Epic Games has revealed that they'll only be allowing Fortnite Chapter 1 maps to be recreated in the new Unreal Editor Creative 2.0 tool.
Epic Games recently announced the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), with it now being available as part of a public beta to be used alongside the game’s existing Creative toolset. Players and creators will be able to use the new editor to create a variety of games and experiences within Fortnite, making use of the new tools and graphical capabilities.
With this roll out came the Fortnite Creator Economy 2.0, which has already seen thousands of UEFN projects begin to take form. And while the possibilities for the tool are seemingly endless, Epic Games has already made players and creators aware of certain restrictions that Creative 2.0 has in place.
In a recent blog post, Epic reminded players that using anyone’s intellectual property without their permission is a violation of Epic’s rules. It is not permitted to create, publish or monetize content based on others' copyrighted IP — this includes all variations of Fortnite's Battle Royale maps and Islands.
But a slight exception has been made to this rule: "We are as excited as you to relive the experiences we shared in the original Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 1 map, and so we are granting a special and specific exception to allow creators to publish their own remakes of the Chapter 1 maps," Epic said.
"And only the Chapter 1 maps."
This means that creators are not permitted to make any recreations of Fortnite's maps past Chapter 1. Any islands made that do recreate Chapter 1 maps will also be ineligible for monetization.
Players can find the original Fortnite Chapter 1 map, built by Atlas Creative, by entering its code in the Discover tab: 2179-7822-3395.
