Wizards of the Coast's mega-popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering is turning 30 years old in 2023, and to celebrate this momentous occasion WOTC is releasing an extra-special exclusive product: Magic 30th Anniversary Edition. Here are all the details on it.
For those new to Magic the game's age might come as some surprise: It was first developed in the early 1990s by University of Pennsylvania PhD student Richard Garfield, now known for a number of famous card and board games like Netrunner, Robo Rally, Keyforge and Valve's Artifact. It became an instant hit and evolved into the game it is today.
MTG 30th Anniversary Contents
MTG 30th Anniversary is a box of cards that replicates the experience of opening packs of the game's original sets, like Alpha and Beta. These sets include powerful and exceedingly rare cards like Black Lotus and Timetwister, which are highly sought after.
One box of 30th Anniversary contains four 15-card booster packs, which include 12 modern-frame cards, 2 retro-frame cards, and one art token. Unfortunately, these cards are not tournament legal in any sanctioned competitive Magic format.
MTG 30th Anniversary Price
Gaining potential access to these cards comes with a hefty price tag: Each box of Magic 30th Anniversary costs a whopping $999.
MTG 30th Anniversary Where to Buy
Magic 20th Anniversary is currently out of stock on the Magic website. It is unknown if it is getting additional stock. Otherwise players must look to the secondary market to get their hands on a box of Magic 30th Anniversary Edition.
