The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced back in 2018, so can we expect to see it released in 2023?
It's been a long time since Elder Scrolls fans have had a new mainline entry into the series. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched in 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Since then, the game has seen multiple ports to newer generation consoles, including the Nintendo Switch, and received various different upgraded editions.
Despite becoming one of the best-loved RPGs, fans have grown weary of repeated Skyrim ports and are eager to get their hands on something new. The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced during E3 2018, with a teaser that provided next to nothing in terms of information. Since then, Bethesda's focus has been largely directed at upcoming new IP Starfield, which is set to launch later this year.
As we approach almost five years since The Elder Scrolls 6 announcement, will we see a release in 2023?
Will The Elder Scrolls 6 Launch in 2023?
Though it's one of the most anticipated RPGs, it's highly unlikely that we'll see The Elder Scrolls 6 release in 2023.
Back in November 2021, director Todd Howard hinted that we might not see The Elder Scrolls 6 launch until 2026.
In an interview with IGN, Todd Howard discussed the long wait between Elder Scrolls games and how Bethesda's focus on Starfield has affected the development. It was put to Howard, "it's going to be roughly, probably, 15 years between Elder Scrolls games because you're busy with another little thing called Starfield." With Skyrim's release back in 2011, that puts the estimate for The Elder Scrolls 6 at roughly 2026.
This doesn't lock The Elder Scrolls 6 to a 2026 release date but, in another interview with IGN from June 2022, Howard confirmed the game was still in pre-production. Needless to say, it's going to be some time before we get a release date.
