Warner Bros recently filed a trademark to use Big Chungus in video games — so is he heading to MultiVersus?
A recent trademark was filed on Aug. 26, 2022 by Warner Bros to use meme-created Big Chungus in video games, films, clothing, toys, and more. The move has sparked hope that the chunky character could be heading to MultiVersus in the future, joining the game's wide roster of Warner Bros characters.
And Warner Bros isn't above putting meme-spun versions of their characters in MultiVersus. The Super Saiyan-inspired version of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, which gained popularity thanks to an internet meme, features as part of Shaggy's abilities in the fighting game.
As for the origins of Big Chungus, the image comes from an old Merrie Melodies/Looney Tunes episode from 1941 in which Bugs Bunny inflates himself in an attempt to mock regular rival Elmer Fudd. The image gained popularity after an exaggerated version was photoshopped and started doing the rounds on Reddit. The word "chungus" was coined by video game journalist Jim Sterling several years before the meme appeared.
Whether or not Big Chungus will make its way into MultiVersus remains to be seen. Warner Bros has yet to confirm the character's addition to the roster. At the very least, it's certainly a possibility.
