One of Sony's most successful PlayStation IPs could be next in line to get a television adaptation. The Horizon franchise, which has spawned two mainline entries and a PSVR2 spin-off, will join the likes of The Last of Us and God of War by getting its own TV project. The show is reported to be based off the first game, Horizon Zero Dawn (2017), though it's still in very early development.
Horizon Zero Dawn follows the story of Aloy, a young hunter who must navigate a post-apocalyptic world overrun by strange animal-like machines in order to find the secret to her origin. The game is set in the United States, though thousands of years in the future after humanity suffered a technological calamity.

The Horizon Zero Dawn TV show is in development with Netflix and will likely only be available to watch on this streaming service. Netflix is no stranger to video game live-action adaptations, having distributed Resident Evil and The Witcher (though the latter was largely based on the book series).
Sony announced that the show was in development with Netflix back in May 2022, during a Q&A for the company's earnings presentation. The information was then further backed up by analyst David Gibson.

Given that the Horizon Zero Dawn TV show is still in very early development, news about cast and crew has been sparse. That said, one name has been confirmed as attached to the project, showrunner Steve Blackman.
Blackman is perhaps best known for Fargo, on which he served as a writer, co-executive producer and consulting producer. He was also the showrunner for the Netflix adaptation of The Umbrella Academy. Blackman will serve as showrunner for Horizon Zero Dawn under Irish Cowboy Productions, having signed a multi-year deal with Netflix.
Horizon Zero Dawn TV Series Release Date
At the time of writing, a window of release for the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn TV show has yet to be revealed. The show has not yet begun filming, and casting has not been determined. Fans should anticipate a late-2024 air date at the earliest.
Previous rumors indicated that the show could be called Horizon 2074, suggesting that the story could take place roughly 1,000 years before the events of the first game. These rumors were further fuelled by a supposed crew list emerging on the Directors Guild of Canada website.
