Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, CD PROJEKT RED's first-ever anime series, will debut on Netflix on Sept. 13, 2022, the Polish video game studio announced Tuesday.
Created in collaboration with prominent Japanese animation studio Studio Trigger, all 10 episodes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will premiere at the same time.
The announcement was made complete with a two-minute NSFW trailer showcasing all of the bloody, high-octane fun that mature viewers can expect to see from the show.
In addition to the trailer, CD PROJEKT RED also released a brand-new poster featuring one of the key characters of the series — the "brilliant" Lucy, who is said to be a skilled netrunner and an important member of Maine’s mercenary crew.
Despite her highly sought-after technical abilities, she wants nothing more than to escape Night City and her dangerous past.CD PROJECT REDCyberpunk: Edgerunners is said to be a standalone story that follows the steps of David Martinez, a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future.
A tale that should sound familiar to those who played Cyberpunk 2077, Martinez is someone who, in the aftermath of a personal tragedy, is seemingly looking to take control of his own destiny by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
Aside from being created by CD PROJEKT RED, the show brings together a number of well-known creatives, such as director Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare), character designer Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal), and writers Masahiko Otsuka (Star Wars: Visions "The Elder") and Yoshiki Usa (GRIDMAN UNIVERSE series).
