With Season 12 of Apex Legends, Defiance, truly starting to wind down, now is perhaps as good of a time as ever to go over the pick rates of the 20 Legends.
Defiance launched Feb. 8, 2022, and saw Mad Maggie's addition to the Legend pool. In her inaugural season, her pick rate â a common measure of popularity within the community â has come to rest at a dismal 2.1%. This leaves her tied with Wattson for the game's third-least popular legend to date, just above Crypto and Rampart.
This data is especially interesting considering they could be tells for what Legend nerfs and buffs are prioritized for Season 13: Saviors. As such, here's a breakdown of the Legend pick rates in Apex Legends Season 12: Defiance.
Apex Legends: Defiance Pick Rates
According to Apex Legends Status, here is how the Legend pick rates/popularity data shakes out with less than two weeks left in Season 12.
- Wraith: 11.8%
- Octane: 11.6%
- Bloodhound: 9.5%
- Pathfinder: 9.1%
- Valkyrie: 8.8%
- Horizon: 5.9%
- LIfeline: 5%
- Bangalore: 4.8%
- Ash: 4.4%
- Loba: 4.2%
- Fuse: 3.5%
- Mirage: 3.2%
- Gibraltar: 3.1%
- Caustic: 2.7%
- Revenant: 2.4%
- Seer: 2.2%
- Wattson: 2.1%
- Mad Maggie: 2.1%
- Crypto: 2%
- Rampart: 1.6%
Keep in mind that this data was taken at the time of publication on April 30, at 3:30 p.m. ET. According to Apex Legends Status, this data was taken using a 12.3 million player sample in their API database. This includes data from players who are unranked, all the way to those who've reached Apex Predator.
Going by the data, Wraith has, perhaps deservingly, reclaimed the top spot from Octane, who was Number 1 in Season 11.
Meanwhile, Ash has dropped from sixth to ninth since Escape. Caustic also fell, with a pick rate down from 3.7% to 2.7%, presumably because of the nerfs he received early on in Defiance.
Lastly, Gibraltar continues to see a mere 3.1% pick rate overall, a stark contrast to the 100% pick rate he had in the NA Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Pro League Split 1 Playoffs. This remains one of the most interesting balance topics moving forward as Respawn Entertainment has already acknowledged in the past that it's tough to nerf Gibby for the pros without making him even worse in the eyes of the general community.
